How I Converted Adversity into Opportunity- My Struggle from a Bulky Man to a Fitness Icon

I always believed in “karma” & that’s what led me to make a paradigm shift in my health & fitness.

It was Aug’2016 & I went to doctor for regular checkup. During the checkup, I came to know that I had fatty liver stage 3 & I was advised by doctor to stop eating Junk & oily stuff. Initially, I started avoiding eating out & stopped consuming junk food which was over a period of next 1 month was enthusiastically replaced with mix of home made food &  citrus fruits. However, I was not able to control my urge for sweet foods, which hampered my weight loss initially.

In the month of Sep’16, I started brisk walk during morning hours when I realized my stamina was at sub par level & I couldn’t do more than 2 kms of brisk walk at one stretch. As most of us looking to shed weight would do, I visited couple of gyms to figure out the best gym to meet my fitness goals.

As luck would have it, I was successfully able to locate a gym which opened up as early as 5 am, a perfect timing for office goes like me. I immediately took with 3 months of membership to check if I can sustain the workout schedule. I started workout with 45 minutes cardio everyday. Although, I reduced 6.5 Kgs in span of 3 months, I failed to realise that I have to do mix of functional & weight training. At the end of 3 months, I could recognise I was becoming passionate about fitness & wanted to attain supreme fitness level. I decided to make a meticulous plan to achieve weight loss in line with my optimum BMI.

 

At that time, I came in touch with Shaad bhai, an excellent trainer. I shared my goals with him & he was super excited to help me. We together made a time bound plan for weight loss followed by muscle gain. At that time I weighed 97 kgs.

We started with 10 minutes cardio followed by 20 minutes abs/side lateral & 45 minutes weight training. Next 3 months were super hard for me with level of functional exercise increasing with  every passing week. I used to consider Saturday as most awful day since we used to do functional whole day with 200 pushups, 90 kgs tyre turn, puddling rope & tiger walk. But later on I started enjoying these workouts & helped me build a great stamina.

 

At end of 3rd month, I was weighing 91 kgs. During my fat burn journey, I faced struggles at extreme levels with my body draining after doing 2nd set of abs & functional exercises. However, my passion overpowered these small hiccups & pains. With motto of “no pain no gain”, I could accelerate & improve my stamina by 30%. As a result, I started jogging & running which I could not do earlier. During next 12 months, my stamina increased by whopping 200% & I lost bad fat from my abdomen & body.

 

Next phase of my body transformation saw change in my body structure from lean to build which had its own share of challenges. Initially, I struggled with legs workout since I had slim legs due to constant running. Later on, I increased weights gradually. Legs workout eventually became my best bet for a great workout day.

 

During my entire phase of weight loss transformation, I reduced body fat from 37% to 13%. In the end, what matters is the determination of getting transformed. Though there were extreme challenges, yet my determination to achieve my fitness goals was stronger than any roadblocks.
