Paleo Diet: Welcome to the world of real eating

Most of us prefer making money rather than focusing on our health!

Our civilization has been evolving for  2 million, we have been farming since last 10,000 years & about less than 100 years we have been spraying chemicals on crops, pumping livestock with drugs & feeding them crap.

We are leading a tech driven life, we have someone to help for every activity. Our bodies are hardly involved in any physical activity.

Our bodies are designed for what a primitive hunter ate– whole real foods such as Animal food- chicken, fish, eggs, vegetables, salad, sweet potato, healthy oils. However we are accustomed to consume fried stuff, processed foods, dairy & grains.

Are we fine given that we have been eating this processed food for so many years? Absolutely “ No”! Consuming dairy, grains, processed & fried foods are linked to diseases such as arthritis, type 2 diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome & cancer.

So why some of us look more healthier than others despite being genetically similar?

Some of us ( referred to as crazy #fitness aspirants) do these:

1)Give special instructions to waiter- do not cook in butter, vegetable oil, put less salt, no sugar in tea etc..!

2)Carry their own lunch to the office! 

3)Unable to hide their horror at other’s lunch party! 

So what they are actually doing? they have adopted Paleo/Primitive Hunter Diet

So what do they consume?

  • Meat: Lamb, Chicken, Turkey, Pork, others
  • Fish & Seafood: Salmon, Trout, Shellfish, Shrimp etc..
  • Eggs: Omega 3 enriched eggs
  • Vegetables: Broccoli, kale, peppers, onions, carrots, tomatoes, etc.
  • Fruits: Apple, Bananas, Oranges, Pear, Avocados, Strawberries, Blueberries
  • Tubers: Sweet Potato, Turnip etc
  • Nuts & Seeds: Almonds, macadamia nuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and more.
  • Healthy fats and oils: Extra virgin/Extra light olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and others.
  • Salt & Spices: Sea Salt, Garlic, Turmeric

Always look for minimal processed options

Over last few decades, some modern foods such as gluten free grains- multigrain whole wheat flour & gluten free rice have been included in the Paleo diet. Consuming of these foods in smaller quantities is perfectly fine & healthy.

What do they drink when Thirsty?

  1. Tea: Tea is very healthy and loaded with antioxidants and various beneficial compounds.  
  2. Coffee: Coffee is actually very high in antioxidants as well. 

What they avoid?

  • Sugar and high-fructose syrup: Soft drinks, fruit juices, table sugar, candy, pastries, ice cream 
  • Grains:  breads and pastas, wheat, spelt, rye, barley, etc.
  • Legumes: Beans, lentils and many more.
  • Dairy: Avoid most dairy, especially full-fat dairy like butter and cheese
  • Vegetable oils: Soybean oil, sunflower oil, cottonseed oil, corn oil, grapeseed oil, 
  • Trans fats: Found in various processed foods. These are generally found in hydrogenated oils( derived from hardening of vegetable oils)
  • Artificial sweeteners: Aspartame, sucralose, cyclamates, saccharin, acesulfame 
  • Highly processed foods: Everything labeled “diet” or “low-fat” or that has preservatives
