Importance of Body Language in Interview

You may  be well qualified & experienced & have required expertise, but if your body language is wrong during the interview, the hiring manager/interviewer will not consider you for a potential role. 93% of communication is non-verbal & we make rapid & spontaneous judgement about the people you are talking to. This is true specifically when your are lying about experience in your resume

The fact of the matter is that experienced interviewers know that most of the interviewees fabricate their profiles & when they enquire more around those claims, the job seekers panic & show incompetence. You should always present the exact facts during the interview. This will certainly boost your interviewee confidence & leave a positive impact on their body language.

During an interview only 7% account for your personal credibility, 38% accounts for the tone of your voice & rest 55% accounts for visual clues, facial expressions & gestures.

This is more important for sharp & clever people who have deep focus on their thoughts. This means their non verbal cues are easily noticeable by the interviewer/hiring manager.

So what is the best way to approach in the interview? Is there a way these specific way of communication can be control & used in a better & positive way? There is a clear cut strategy to guide your body to behave in different ways:

  1. Most of us are unaware how we should approach in interview. Lot of us have obscure knowledge on how to manage facial expressions, tone of voice or posture. The best way is to practice potential interview questions in front or mirror or camera. Then watch how you performed in the mock interview. This will help you evaluate & overcome your gaps.
  2. Ask for feedback. Improvisador’s career & interview coach would be perfect to give his/her inputs. If you have someone in your network who is practiced interviewer, ask his feedback. It would result in credible inputs
  3. During your interview, focus on posture. Be open & relaxed. Sit straight & forward to portray an impression of concentration. Wear smart & professional clothes that would further positively add to your body language.
  4. Be natural, don’t jiggle or legs or pick your fingernail. Stay calm & composed.
