Working from home- How do you enhance your productivity?

Huge salaries & performance bonuses are not the only attractive proposition to secure job of your choice. In today’s digital era, corporations have come up with flexibility in working  style with work to home/remote working options. However, this option also require employees to maintain/enhance their productivity without regular supervision. Here is how you can achieve your productivity goals:

  1. Get formally dressed: Most of us think the biggest benefit of working from home is you can be dressed in casual pj’s since nobody is going to question you on dressing sense. In order to get that feeling of working in a professional environment, it is always recommended to dress up formally. The goal is to feel motivated & disciplined. Some employees have to allocate a designated office space inside their home. Sitting on deep couch while working is not everyone. Know your rules & maintain professionalism even if you are working from home or any other remote location.
  2. Prepare list of work deliverables: At the beginning of every week, prepare a list of goals/objectives you need to accomplish during the week. Setting goals enables you track the progress of your work & propels you forward. Technology has made your life easier thanks to various apps which helps you schedule deliverables, set reminders & much more. Keeping you activities under control can give your career  a boost. You are working away from your office & do not have a constant supervision to motivate you. You shall be submitting weekly reports & signing-in to let know your teammates know how the work is progressing. This will make sure that your physical absence will not be hindrance
  3. Allocate time for each deliverable:  Setting goals & making a list is not going to guarantee timely delivery of task unless you allocate time for each delivery. Keeping a timer & noting the time allocated versus spent will you stay on schedule. If you are working on a larger project, breaking the deliverables in further sub-tasks will help you expedite the delivery. The worst time to start a task/work deliverable in during the last 30 minutes of the day. This is the time when you are wrapping up. Besides, you should not forget to allocate a small portion of time for checking & responding to emails.
  4. Keep a break: Do not forget to give yourself a break & take time for yourself. Remember, when you were working from office, you had small 5 to 10 minutes coffee break when you had fun chat/discussions with co-workers in your office cafe. Working from home means, you are free to decide when to take a short break. You can squeeze your lunch time & can do your normal daily chores such as ironing your clothes or washing utensils during those small breaks. Make it a point to take 30 minutes to an hour break in a day. This will also help you to rejuvenate & would have positive impact on your productivity. This is especially important when your work requires you to sit in front of computer for long hours. To prevent from your eyes getting strained & legs getting cramped, keep a point of moving from your seat for 2 to 3 minutes every hour.

Working from home/remotely, gives you freedom. However, it should be an opportunity for you to close your day early or give too many hours to work. Your corporations expects to handle all the jobs even when you are not physically present.
