Recently, Microsoft introduced LinkedIn resume assistant. It connects world users to LinkedIn & enables them to view public profiles of people similar to them. The idea behind introducing this feature was to allow Microsoft(word users) to write their resume & LinkedIn profiles. So how does this help? In simple terms by showing how other people having profile like theirs present themselves in their profile.
Unfortunately, this feature is going to promote LinkedIn plagiarism & resume copycats & professionals would find it difficult to differentiate themselves in their marketing documents. This resume assistant would make it easy for the people to copy other people’s profile-including yours.
Unless you opt out, LinkedIn can share your public profile with world users everywhere. If you want to opt out of resume assistant, you need to adopt the following steps:
- Log in to your LinkedIn profile.
- Click “Me” on the right side of the top, horizontal rail.
- Then click “Settings and Privacy.” & then click Privacy
- Find the first section, “How others see your profile and network information.”
- Scroll down and click “Microsoft Word.”
- Click the toggle to “No.”
It is always better to recheck your settings after new days after making changes every month.
You would also be curious to learn if someone has copied your profile. Ideally you can pick up some keywords from your profile, put them in quotation marks & search them on google search bar. If you could figure out someone has copied content from your profile, you can send a polite message asking them to stop copying. Still if they don’t, you can report to LinkedIn.
