Signs to know your boss is a Jerk

You are fed up with the work, however the problem is not the job but your boss/manager. Many employees like the corporation they work for, however hate continuing there due to inefficient & bad leadership. So how do you evaluate & gauge if your boss is guilty of being imbecile?

  • Your boss is insecure, incompetent & micromanages you

You cannot even send an email or call director of marketing without informing your boss. You have done some analysis which has gone above his head & he has re-clarified on the outcome of analysis with you numerous times. He may want you to sit beside him when he is drafting an important email. You may be questioning yourself “ Why did he hired me?”. Why did organisation has placed me under such a manager who does not have subject matter knowledge? It is good to guide & mentor but employees expect to enjoy trust & should be valued. They should not be considered incapable of delivering work without repeated supervision.

  • You are held responsible for his mishaps

Your boss thinks he is never wrong. Even if he has goofed up an important deal/project, he will never take ownership. A great boss would accept how his mistake impacted your work deliverable. He reprimands as if he is completely unaware of the fact that he has created the mess you are in now. You are the one who does not want to get into a blame politics so you continue with you work avoiding all the misconduct he has done with you.

  • He is bipolar

He can joke with you about a funny incident that happened last week & the very next moment shall call you in his office & scream at you for how bad you have screwed up the discussion during the morning meeting. Sometimes you will wonder if he is threatened by you. On a lot of occasions you will reassure yourself that he is incompetent & there is nothing you can do about it. As soon as you decide to revamp your resume, he comes with a smiling face & have all good things to say about you in front of other team members.

  • He assumes your time is not important

Just a few minutes before you are heading for an important meeting, your boss calls you to help him correct grammatical errors in an email he is about to send to CEO regarding progress of last month. You can decline but then you will be subject to hear all nuisance from him for the next 10 days for not being a team player. To make the situation more difficult, he shall call you for a not so urgent discussion just 5 minutes before the closing business hours which can be deferred to the next day. You get pissed off when he asks you to work on a project at the last minute while he has the nerve to leave early.

  • He is more of bossy nature than having leadership traits

Bosses just focus on giving orders while on the other hand leaders share work, motivate team members & recognize team efforts. You know that your manager is having more of bossy nature when he gets defensive on your suggestions in weekly meetings. He is smart enough to find fault in everyone but would not be willing to accept mess he has created. He would take credit for the work & would prevent a direct communication between that rock start sales manager & CEO. He may be one who would give all knowledge & lecture on teamwork & leadership but would never involve you in any decision that may impact your deliverables.
