How to lead Successful Job Search

Most of us are not aware how to go about job search. Research shows that on an average professionals switch job every 3 to 4 years. This means over course of their career, they work in as much as 12 to 15 different jobs/roles. Most of us follow a plain vanilla approach when it comes to job search~blindly sending job application through various portals without evaluating if the job/role has a potential fit &/or is in your preferred industry/geography.

The following considerations & checklist will assist you in securing a preferred job faster. Please remember to have a careful chartered job search strategy. Be selective rather than contacting hundreds of prospective employers.

  1. Do a back of the envelope working: What is your target? What kind of job roles, functions, industry or geography you are interested in? Any specific corporations you are interested to work with? Describe how your idea job/role looks like.
  2. Outline & organise your job search strategy & make a plan for weekly list of job search activities.
  3. Schedule & pencil down daily activities which you shall undertake for your job search. If a network opportunity or interview comes up, you may rearrange your schedule accordingly.
  4. Devote ample time for your job search. If you working, you should earmark 18 to 20 hours per week on your job search. However, if you are unemployed, you can devote upto 40 hours a week.
  5. When doing a job search, do from a place where you have minimal/no distractions.
  6. Remember, you motivation for job search will decrease or increase basis response with prospective employers/ success in attaining your job search goals. Appreciate yourself for efforts you have put in
  7. Find out an accountability partner who can help, assist, guide & motivate you in your successful job search He can be your friend, your brother, coach/counselor or another job seeker. This will help you evaluate your job search action plan & also get critiqued on your efforts.
