Resume writing is not an easy task since it requires candidates to present & articulate his content in a very intelligent, concise & error free manner.

In majority of cases, candidates may mention what they do (action), without specifying the objective & end result they achieve/organisation’s benefit from their action. This only signifies tasks assigned but not the value created by them after accomplishing those tasks. The content should be presented in a format of OAR-objective, action & result which signifies what was the objective of a particular task, what activities they performed & what was the end result (cost savings, time savings, achievements, profits, % growth , operational improvements etc).

Besides, candidates commit lot of silly grammatical mistakes such as omission of full stop, comma, exclamation marks, question marks & mixing present & past tense ( to name a few) which cost them opportunity to land with interview for their dream job.

The following are key components for building a great resume:

1) The content in the resume should be concise & easily understandable by the prospective recruiter.

2) Professional summary should portray career graph in a crisp way.

3) Every line in resume should be in Objective Action Result(OAR) format so as to articulate the achievements/value created for employer.

4) The resume should build a progressive story which clearly paints portrait of the candidate.

5) The content should have keywords relevant to the skills & experience so that it is easy & convenient for recruiter to locate a potential fit.

6) The content should be free from spelling & grammatical errors

7) “One size does not fit all” perfectly applies to resume writing. Resume is tailor made to suit the profile/cultural requirements of the job you are applying for. Additional information not so relevant to the job in question can be included in cover &/or motivation letter.

8) Avoid deal breakers such as typos, wrong choice of worlds or bragging about the achievements.
